1890년대에 설립된 School of Art in Kingston과 1970년 Kingston Technical Institute이 설립된 이후 1992년 하나로 통합되어 Kingston University가 되었다. Art & Design 학부가 명성이 높고, 특히 일러스트레이션 학과는 영국 내에서 1,2위를 자랑한다. 일러스트레이션 학과 외에도 예술 디자인, 인테리어, 건축조경분야 학과들도 강세를 보인다. 총 5개의 독립된 캠퍼스 (Penrhyn Road, Kingston Hill, Kinghts Park, Roehampton Vale, St.George’s) 에서 학과를 운영 중이며, Art&Design 수업은 Knights Park Campus에서 이루어진다.
